Schofield secures Surrey contract

Chris Schofield Ex-England leg-spinner Chris Schofield has signed a one-year deal at Surrey after a successful spell last season.

He played two Tests in 2000 but was released by Lancashire in 2004 and began 2006 with minor county Suffolk.

A trial with Surrey led to appearances in two championship games, in which he claimed eight wickets and hit 114 runs.

"I would like to thank coach Alan Butcher for giving me the opportunity to play regular first-class cricket again," the 27-year-old said.

"I found it refreshing how on more than one occasion this year Surrey selected three spinners in the starting line-up.

"I am very much looking forward to playing with Ian Salisbury and Nayan Doshi as we start our Division One campaign next year."
