Surrey hit by Kumble injury blow
India spinner Anil Kumble is to return home on Friday after being diagnosed with tendinitis in his right shoulder.
The 35-year-old, who arrived in July, took 26 wickets in three Championship and five one-day games for Surrey.
"It was a pleasure working with him and I hope I have the opportunity to do so again," commented coach Alan Butcher.
Kumble's 19 wickets in three County Championship matches helped Surrey take a 29-point lead at the top of Division Two with three matches remaining.
"It is disappointing that my injury has prevented me in taking part in the rest of the season. I thank the guys for making my time so enjoyable," he said.
"I wish Alan and the team the best of luck in achieving the title."
Kumble hopes the injury will ease in time for the ICC Champions Trophy, which India will host in October.
He has not figured in the last six one-day series for India.
But the fourth highest Test wicket-taker has been selected in the provisional 30-man India squad for the limited overs competition.
