Scots want more Twenty20 matches

Scotland captain Gavin Hamilton said his team were desperate for more short-form cricket despite being humbled by South Africa in the World Twenty20.

The Scots suffered a second successive defeat - this time by a remarkable 130 runs - to bow out of the tournament.

But Hamilton said: "We've got the next Twenty20 qualifiers coming up in the UAE later this year and this experience has been absolutely priceless.

"We don't want to miss out on chances to play in tournaments like this."

The Scots produced a competitive performance in a rain-hit game against New Zealand on Saturday, but they were comprehensively outplayed by the South Africans.

The Proteas smashed 211-5 having been put in by Hamilton, before bowling the Scots out for only 81 in reply.

Scotland qualified for the competition because of the withdrawal of Zimbabwe, after they finished third behind Netherlands and Ireland at the 2009 ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier in Stormont last August.

Hamilton added: "We can't sit here making excuses, we don't want these opportunities to run out.

"By the time the qualifiers come around in October we will be a better team and better people too.

"These South Africans are some of the best batsmen in the world. They are a fantastic outfit and didn't give us any breathing space at all."

South Africa captain Graeme Smith was delighted to see his side get off to such a good start and immediately book a place in the Super Eights stage.

He admitted England's shock opening day defeat to the Netherlands had caused his players some concern.

"We played beautifully today," said Smith. "We had a few more nerves after watching the first few days of the tournament, so today it was important to send a message.

"The first six overs and the last five are crucial scoring areas. We've got good guys up front and good finishers. AB de Villiers and Albie Morkel finished it off beautifully."
