After Black Caps captain Daniel Vettori won the toss, the tourists took full advantage of the overcast conditions as Scotland were bowled out for 101.
Ross Taylor then scored 61 not out from 41 deliveries as New Zealand sealed victory with 35.2 overs remaining.
The defeat crushes Scotland's hopes of a place on the official one-day international rankings.
The Scots, seeking a first win against Test-playing opposition, went into the clash in high spirits after a comprehensive win against Ireland, who were also thrashed by the Kiwis.
But a humid atmosphere made it difficult for Scottish batsmen and skipper Ryan Watson's disappointing form continued when he was bowled in the first over by Mark Gillespie - a second duck in as many days.
Gillespie then removed Gavin Hamilton to reduce the Scots to 12-2 before Nav Poonia and Colin Smith both gloved catches to Brendon McCullum off Jacob Oram.
