Bangladesh ruin Scots foreign bow

First one-day international, Chittagong
Bangladesh 154-4 (29.1 overs) beat Scotland 153 (45.1 overs) by six wickets

Mashrafee bin Mortaza dismisses Ryan Watson Scotland's first ever overseas one-day international ended in defeat as Bangladesh secured their seventh successive win at Chittagong.

Chasing a target of 154, the hosts secured a seven-wicket win with 25 overs to spare after Aftab Ahmed's 66.

The tourists lost two wickets before reaching double figures and were bowled out for 153 despite a late battle.

Seamer Mashrafe bin Mortaza took 2-49 and his haul of 47 in 2006 looks like being the most in this calendar year.

Bangladesh's Abdur Razzak (41) and Jerome Taylor (39) of West Indies are the only men with a chance of passing him. Aussie left-armer Nathan Bracken has 46 in 23 matches.

Scotland, who lost their only previous one-dayer against Bangladesh by 22 runs in the 1999 World Cup, failed miserably with the bat.

Opening bowlers Mortaza and Shahadat Hossain ripped through the top order, sharing five wickets, leaving the spinners with the easy task of restricting the lower-order.

Wicket-keeper Colin Smith top-scored with a 59-ball 30.

Ahmed then shared a 92-run stand for the second wicket with Shahriar Nafees, who made 36.

Seventeen of the 26 games Mortaza has played this year have been against against lowly Kenya and Zimbabwe.

After series whitewashes of both those opponents, Bangladesh's victory was their 11th in 13 matches. The second and final match of this short one-day series is in Fatullah on Sunday.
