New Notts turf ahead of schedule

Turf being laid at Trent Bridge

Work to install new turf, drainage and sprinklers at Nottinghamshire's Trent Bridge home is ahead of schedule.

The £600,000 project, funded by the England and Wales Cricket Board, will be completed in time for the new season and the ICC World Twenty20 in June.

Notts groundsman Steve Birks told the club website: "We should have all the turf down within four weeks.

"It has taken well and we've seen some growth already - we're very confident we can stay ahead of schedule."

The new irrigation and sprinkler system, which will be controlled remotely by computer, is designed to keep rain delays to a minimum.

In addition to the new turf, the square has been extended and five new practice wickets have been installed at the Fox Road end.

The ground underwent an £8.2m revamp earlier in the year, which saw a new stand built and new floodlights installed.
