Middlesex learn Champions rivals

Middlesex with the Twenty20 Cup

Middlesex will take part in the opening match of the inaugural Champions League Twenty20 tournament in December.

They will face Victoria Bushrangers in Mumbai on 3 December before moving on to Chennai for games against Pretoria Titans and the local Super Kings side.

The eight teams taking part have been divided into two groups, with the top two from each reaching the semi-finals.

The competition will end with the final in Mumbai on 10 December, with the winners set to earn $3m (£1.86m).

Australia, South Africa and India each have two teams in the competition with Middlesex and Pakistan's Sialkot Stallions making up the numbers.

There were originally two places on offer for England, but Kent, who were beaten by Middlesex in the Twenty20 Cup final, were refused entry because two of their players have appeared in the Indian Cricket League.

The ICL is a rival to the Indian Premier League (IPL) and is not sanctioned by any of cricket's governing bodies.

Of Middlesex's three Group A opponents, Victoria and Pretoria are also their respective national Twenty20 champions, but Super Kings lost to Rajasthan Royals in the first IPL final.
