Foxes sign Pakistani leg-spinner

Mansoor Amjad Leicestershire have signed Pakistan A leg-spinner Mansoor Amjad as overseas cover for India batsman Dinesh Mongia.

Mongia will be with India for the one-day series with Sri Lanka and South Africa, which finishes on 29 August.

Amjad, 18, took five wickets for Pakistan A in a match against England in Lahore last winter and played in the recent Top End Series in Australia.

"He will give us a cutting edge which we have been missing in Championship matches," Foxes coach Tim Boon said.

"He is also a more than capable middle-order batsman who already has two first-class hundreds to his name."

Amjad, who was due to play for the Leicestershire second XI until Mongia's call-up, will go straight into their senior side for the Championship match against Gloucestershire starting on Wednesday at Cheltenham College.
