Du Plessis signs new Lancs deal

Francois Du Plessis

Lancashire batsman Francois Du Plessis has signed a new three-year deal to stay at Old Trafford.

The South African, 24, joined this summer on a Kolpak contract for six months and has proved a big success.

Lancashire coach Mike Watkinson told BBC Radio Manchester: "If there's a better fielder in county cricket I've not seen him this season.

"He's outstanding and some of his catches, run outs and diving stops at backward point have been tremendous."

Watkinson also thinks Du Plessis is capable of improving.

"He's only a youngster, his game's improving. He's just turned 24, I think there's more runs in him and he's a useful second spinner so he's been a good asset for us."
