Batsman Hodge to leave Lancashire

Brad Hodge

Lancashire have confirmed that batsman Brad Hodge has been released with immediate effect for family reasons.

Hodge, 33, has decided to remain in Australia to look after his sick wife Meg and their young son Jesse.

Lancashire chief executive Jim Cumbes said: "Brad's wife has been ill for some time, and although she's on the mend, it's important he be at home."

New Zealander Lou Vincent will stay on to replace Hodge as the club's overseas player for the remainder of the summer.

Hodge was in his fourth summer with Lancashire after leaving Leicestershire at the end of the 2004 season to sign on a two-year deal.

After two prolific years in 2005 and 2006, he signed another two-year contract that would see him remain at Old Trafford until the end of the 2008 season.

"We would like to thank Brad for his invaluable contribution over the past four years"

But his form earned international calls and, after playing only half his side's County Championship games last summer, he has been even further distracted this season.

After being released to play in the inaugural Indian Premier League in April, he was then called into the Australian squad to tour the Caribbean.

Cumbes added: "We would like to thank Brad for his invaluable contribution over the past four years.

"And everyone associated with the club wishes Meg a speedy return to good health."
