Kent make points appeal to rivals

The England and Wales Cricket Board offered the solution after deciding the washed-out Division One game could not be replayed while New Road was flooded.

However, Durham, Lancashire, Yorkshire and Warwickshire blocked the proposal.

Kent chairman Carl Openshaw asked the counties to "reconsider the exceptional circumstances of the matter".

The backing of all the Division One clubs was needed for Kent to be awarded the extra points as compensation.

In a letter to the rival counties, Openshaw outlined the severity of the New Road conditions and highlighted Worcestershire's acknowledgement of blame in failing to relocate the match.

Openshaw also points out that Kent was adjudged blameless and argues that the ECB should be free to rule as it sees fit on match scheduling.

Worcestershire have played all their home games away from New Road since the flooding and will not be able to return to the ground until 2008.
