Harvey signs for season at Gloucs

Ian Harvey signs his contract with Gloucestershire chief executive Tom Richardson watching on Gloucestershire have extended Ian Harvey's contract until the end of the season after Shane Bond pulled out of his deal because of a knee injury.

The all-rounder, who was on a one-month deal, will now be the second overseas player alongside Hamish Marshall.

"It is fantastic news to be back in the side for the rest of the season and it is great to be offered the opportunity to stay on," the Australian, 34, said.

"I see this as a massive bonus, it's great for myself and the team."

Harvey is in his second spell with the county after winning six one-day titles at the club between 1999 and 2003.

He came back after two years with Yorkshire to cover for Bond and batsman Marshall while they were on New Zealand duty in South Africa.

But his superb form this season - 159 runs and 11 wickets in three championship matches - persuaded the club to stick with him when paceman Bond was ruled out.

Chief executive Tom Richardson said: "Ian has made a terrific contribution on and off the field for the first part of the season.

"Our supporters have been really pleased to see him back at the club and I am sure he will continue to add a lot of value to the side."
