Dalrymple made Glamorgan captain

Jamie Dalrymple

Glamorgan have named Jamie Dalrymple as their new captain.

"It is a great honour to be given the opportunity to captain a club with enormous enthusiasm and potential and such passionate supporters," he said.

The 27-year-old, who joined Glamorgan last year on a three-year deal, takes over from David Hemp who has been released by the county.

Dalrymple is a former Oxford University captain and led Glamorgan twice in the County Championship in the summer.

They were in the win at Essex and defeat to Kent.

Is Dalrymple the right choice for Glamorgan?
Prior to joining Glamorgan in 2008 - where he was voted player of the year - Dalrymple was at Middlesex as a key player between 2000 and 2007.

He has played 27 one-day internationals for England, joining them in 2006/7 for the trip to Australia, the ICC Champions Trophy and the ICC World Cup.

"Jamie was signed to Glamorgan due to his experience and strong character which are both key qualities for a captain," said Glamorgan cricket manager Matthew Maynard.

"Having given Jamie the opportunity to lead the team in Southend during the season, it became overwhelmingly clear that he was the obvious choice for captain should David Hemp not continue at the club."

Chairman Paul Russell added: "I am absolutely delighted that Jamie has taken up the opportunity to captain the team.

"Jamie is a great asset to Glamorgan and personally I am hugely optimistic about the experience and leadership qualities he will bring to us."
