Paceman Jones returns to action

Glamorgan and England bowler Simon Jones England fast bowler Simon Jones made a successful return in Glamorgan's friendly match against Sussex at Hove.

The 28-year-old, who has not played for England since the fourth Ashes Test in August 2005, bowled eight overs.

"It felt brilliant, I've been itching to get back," he said. "I took it easy and built the pace up but I bowled some quick balls at the end I think."

Asked about England he said: "I'll bowl as much as I can for Glamorgan, try to take wickets and push for a place."

He did not take a wicket in his eight overs, which cost 29 runs, but felt content enough with his efforts, even though his run-up looked a little stiff.

Jones admitted that there were times he thought his career might be over, but is yet another to praise the talents of knee surgeon Dr Richard Steadman.

"It does enter your mind," he said. "It's been tough. In the gym by yourself it can be soul-destroying."

He returned to England duty in India last winter but twisted his knee in the nets and required surgery.

Jones was back in the Glamorgan team for the start of the 2006 season but broke down again and travelled to American in June for further surgery.

"I was lucky to have Richard Steadman, you know when he says you are going to play again, you are going to play again," he said.
