Clinton thwarts former teammates

First-class match, Chelmsford: Loughborough UCCE 264 & 237-8 drew with Essex 422-3 dec & 176-4 dec

Richard Clinton recorded an unbeaten century as Loughborough UCCE battled to a draw against his former county Essex.

Netherlands all-rounder Ryan ten Doeschate hammered eight fours and five sixes in an unbeaten 105 as Essex set the visitors a target of 335.

Spinner James Middlebrook claimed match figures of 9-121, ousting first innings centurion Edward Foster first ball.

But Newman hit 18 fours and tailenders David Wainwright and Ruel Brathwaite made 20s as the students reached 237-8.
