Denly sees Kent as leading side

Joe Denly

Kent batsman Joe Denly believes the Spitfires are now regarded as one of the best sides in one-day cricket.

They surprised many last season by winning the Twenty20 Cup and have since gone on to reach the final of this year's Friends Provident Trophy.

"We've shown we can perform under pressure and we are one of the top sides," Denly told BBC Radio Kent.

They continue the defence of their Twenty20 title on Wednesday against Warwickshire in the quarter finals.

The Bears have only lost one game so far in the competition, but Denly claims Kent's growing reputation and confidence means they will not be taken lightly.

"We're looking forward to it and we're in high spirits," the 22-year-old said.

"They've been pretty strong throughout the competition only losing one game, but we we're quite happy with the draw.

"We weren't too worried who we got really, I think we've shown with the strength we've got we can probably beat any side out there."

Kent go into the game off an 83-run win over Durham in the Friends Provident semi-finals - with fine centuries from Denly and the in-form Martin van Jaarsveld.

BBC Radio Kent has ball-by-ball commentary of Warwickshire v Kent from Edgbaston on 77MW, DAB digital radio and the website from 1730 BST
