McLaren and Arafat destroy Surrey

FP TROPHY SOUTH
The Brit Oval: Kent 282-7 beat Surrey 192 by 90 runs

Match scorecard

Kent recovered from 52-4 at The Oval to post 282 and thrash Surrey by 90 runs in the Friends Provident Trophy.

Geraint Jones (86), Justin Kemp (63) and Azhar Mahmood (62) rallied with the bat before the Surrey top order imploded and gave the rest no chance.

Jon Batty (63) provided some resistance but the damage had been done by Yasir Arafat (4-35) and Ryan McLaren.

The South African-born seamer, a hat-trick hero on Twenty20 finals day last season, took a career-best 5-46.

Usman Afzaal and Chris Schofield departed to slip catches, Matt Nicholson was lbw, Neil Saker holed out to long-on and finally Batty steered a yorker-length ball to point.

Surrey's Pedro Collins had earlier excelled with 4-46, but the other home team bowlers were somewhat off colour on a wicket that was more helpful for them than is usually the case at The Oval.
