Surrey on top before rain arrives
LV County Championship D1, Guildford, day one (close): Surrey 164-2 v Worcestershire
Troubled Worcestershire were plagued by the weather even on their travels as Surrey closed at 164-2 on a rain-affected opening day at Guildford.
Kabir Ali failed to impress England chairman of selectors David Graveney as Surrey punished some loose bowling and soon reached 50 having chosen to bat.
Gareth Batty, in his first four-day match for almost five weeks, beat Scott Newman in the flight in the 22nd over.
Jon Batty reached 43 before a top-edge was superbly caught at extra-cover.
The first hold up for the weather saw the loss of 15 overs, after which the prolific Mark Ramprakash brought up Surrey's 150 in the 48th over of the innings.
Skipper Mark Butcher smashed 14 in one Kabir over before the rain came.
