Somerset withstood some anxious moments to dent Surrey's qualification hopes with a three-wicket victory at Bath.
The home side looked to be coasting to their target of 215 after Marcus Trescothick hit nine fours in his 52.
Chris Schofield claimed three quick wickets to cause some uncertainty but James Hildreth made an assured unbeaten 49 to seal the win with 13 balls left.
Ali Brown smashed 32 off 21 balls and Jon Batty fired 50 but Surrey were pegged back by Charl Willoughby (3-22).
Batty could take no risks as wickets fell around him, including the prize scalp of Mark Ramprakash for only 15, striking only three fours in his 87-ball knock.
Trescothick, by contrast, was in fluent form when Somerset batted and it was surprise when he was caught behind off a rare loose stroke to leave his team 74-2.
Skipper Justin Langer holed out to deep mid-wicket and when Cameron White was lbw attempting to sweep Schofield, some panic set in to the home ranks.
Ian Blackwell lofted Schofield straight to Newman at deep mid-wicket to increase the tension amongst the 3,500 Festival crowd, but Hildreth's mature 77-ball innings was supplemented by Steffen Jones, who hit four fours in making 21 not out at a run-a-ball.
