Tykes rescued by new star Rudolph
County Championship D1, The Oval, day one (close): Surrey v Yorkshire 390-8
New Kolpak signing Jacques Rudolph struck a commanding century to help Yorkshire to 390-8 against Surrey.
The Tykes struggled against some useful seam bowling early on and three wickets fell for four in 11 balls.
Rudolph, who has agreed a three-year contract, shared 190 for the sixth wicket with teenager Adil Rashid, who hit 86 having been dropped on nought.
After Rudolph fell for 122 featuring three sixes, new skipper Darren Gough hit a six out of the ground in his 23.
The impressive partnership between Rudolph and rashid was broken in the second over with the new ball when Rashid chopped onto his stumps 14 short of a maiden first-class century.
Three balls later Rudolph chipped to cover having struck 20 fours in his 170-ball innings.
