White shows glimpse of potential
County Championship D2, Derby, day three (close): Derbyshire 385 v Surrey 275-8
Derbyshire's young pace bowler Wayne White ended an injury-hit season on a
high with a four-wicket haul before rain ended play early at Derby.
White took both wickets to fall in the morning as Surrey avoided the follow-on but the Division Two champs are still 110 runs behind with a day left.
The south London side began on 208-6 in reply to the hosts' 385 and were 275 at stumps on a day of rain interruptions.
Sema bowler Tim Murtagh batted all day, going from 14 to an unbeaten 41.
White, 21, who has missed most of the summer with a stress fracture of
the back, removed Neil Saker and Nayan Doshi in successive overs.
Mark Butcher, who was forced to retire on the second evening with a knee problem on 51, is unlikely to take any further part in the match.
