Surrey secure win over Northants
County Championship D2, Northampton (day four)
Surrey 328 & 424-6 dec bt Northamptonshire 300 & 223 by 229 runs
Points: Surrey 20, Northamptonshire 6
Surrey cruised past Northamptonshire, winning by 229 runs as the home side collapsed to 223 all out before lunch on the final day at Northampton.
Northants had resumed on 97-6, and Lance Klusener added just 16 to his overnight score before falling for 58.
Ben Phillips made a rapid 52 to delay the Second Division leaders' victory.
But after he was caught behind by Jon Batty off Rikki Clarke, Ian Salisbury bowled Jason Brown to wrap it up and leave Charl Pietersen unbeaten on 39.
Pietersen - who finished just six short of his highest first-class score - had survived a confident LBW shout from Clarke in the 48th over.
But the inevitable was only delayed until the 53rd when last man Brown, who had cut Salisbury through third man for four, was bowled attempting a slog through mid-wicket.
