Glamorgan hold out for easy draw

Runaway Division Two leaders Surrey declined to set Glamorgan a realistic target for victory as the Championship match at Swansea ended in a draw.

Surrey declared in mid-afternoon on 448-8, setting the Welsh county 387 runs to win in just 40 overs.

The hosts ended on 168-2 when the game was called off with seven overs to go after Mark Cosgrove and Ryan Watkins had added 108 for the first wicket.

Earlier, Surrey ended on 448-8 with Mark Ramprakash out for a fine 156.

He and Ali Brown (73) put on 130 for the fourth wicket, while Alex Wharf finished with 4-67.

The two Glamorgan wickets to fall were both taken by Nayan Doshi with Cosgrove (80) and Watkins (48) both stumped by Jon Batty.

Cosgrove, due to return to Australia for five weeks, at one point looked set to record the fastest century for Glamorgan as James Benning went for 44 in two overs.

But he was finally out after 48 balls for mayhem.

Earlier, Surrey's unambitious approach was slow hand-clapped and booed by the home supporters.
