Mahmood brilliance rescues Surrey

C&G Trophy, The Brit Oval: Surrey 200 (45 ovs) bt Glamorgan 132 (31.3 ovs) by 68 runs

A stunning all-round performance from Azhar Mahmood lifted Surrey from a perilous position to a 68-run home win over Glamorgan in the C&G Trophy.

Surrey were 37-5 when Mahmood, overlooked by Pakistan since February 2005, smashed nine fours and four sixes in an unbeaten 101 from 98 deliveries.

The home side were bowled out for 200 with five overs to spare, but Mahmood struck twice to leave Glamorgan 27-4.

Mark Cosgrove hit 49 in 54 balls before Mahmood returned to finish with 4-17.

Glamorgan made a useful start in their victory quest, reaching 24-0 in the seventh over, but soon lost three wickets without adding a run.

Cosgrove hit 19 off one over from James Benning but spooned Ian Salisbury to mid-wicket, before Mahmood removed David Harrison with the first ball of a new spell.
