Crowds gather for Trueman funeral

Hundreds of mourners are expected to attend the funeral on Thursday of former England and Yorkshire fast bowler Fred Trueman.

The service will take place at 1100 BST at Bolton Abbey Priory Church in North Yorkshire and many of his former team-mates will be there.

The address will be given by the Reverend John Ward and former umpire Dickie Bird will pay tribute.

Trueman died of lung cancer on Saturday at the age of 75.

Nicknamed Fiery Fred, Trueman was considered one of the greatest fast bowlers in history.

He was the first player to take 300 Test wickets and ended his career with 307 from 67 Test matches.

A book of condolence has been opened at Headingley cricket ground in Leeds alongside a picture of Trueman and a stump from the 1964 Test match against Australia, in which he took his 300th Test wicket.

A tribute to Trueman will be shown at 1900 BST on Thursday on BBC One in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, digital satellite, and the BBC Sport website for UK users.
