New Zealand romped to a 204-run victory over the West Indies on Monday to clinch their first-ever Test win in the Caribbean.
Set a massive 474 to win, the West Indies collapsed in the final session to lose the first Test with a day to spare.
The hosts were bowled out for 269, with pace bowler Shane Bond taking five for 79 to add to the brace he took in the first innings, when the West Indies crumbled to 107 all out.
Only Brian Lara, with a classy 73, and Chris Gayle, who made the same score, offered any resistance.
Sloppy shots
Resuming at four for no loss, openers Gayle and Wavell Hinds reached 68 before the latter became spinner Daniel Vettori's first victim of the day.
The Windies had made 107 at lunch without losing any further wickets, but three batsman fell in the afternoon session as the hosts played some sloppy shots.
For the second time in the match Ramnaresh Sarwan fell pulling a short ball from Bond and Gayle was next to go, lbw to Bond, for a brave 73 that included 12 fours.
Captain Carl Hooper then wafted casually at a wayward Daryl Tuffey delivery in the 59th over and was caught by his New Zealand counterpart, Stephen Fleming, at first slip.
Little resistance
At tea the West Indies were 201 for four with the last two recognised batsmen, Lara and Shivnarine Chanderpaul, at the crease.
However, Chanderpaul lost patience against Vettori on 17.
After successfully charging the spinner once, he tried to repeat the shot and presented man-of-the-match Fleming with another simple catch.
Twelve runs later wicketkeeper Ridley Jacobs holed out to Nathan Astle at deep midwicket.
And debutant Darren Powell lasted just 10 balls before edging an Ian Butler delivery to Astle at second slip.
Lara moved smoothly to his 50 but eventually fell to a slower ball from Bond, who snapped up Mervyn Dillon with his next delivery to hand the Kiwis an historic victory.
