Rashid Latif put injury behind him to make his highest one-day score for Pakistan, proving the turning point as the tourists coasted to a comfortable win.

Pakistan were facing potential embarrassment after losing their first five wickets with only 88 on the board, but Latif made 78 off 86 balls despite having to use a runner for much of his innings.

He was suffering from a hamstring problem and former captain Moin Khan was asked to travel to Bangladesh as cover, only for the request to be withdrawn later in the day..

Bangladesh's hopes of repeating their 1999 World Cup win over Pakistan foundered as fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar ripped out both openers.

They were never up with the run rate but a fighting 52 not out by Khaled Mashud at least gave them the consolation of playing out their full 50 overs without being bowled out.

The tourists, who won both Tests by an innings, chose to bat first after winning the toss but were in serious trouble at 88 for five.

Abdur Razzaq helped add 80 for the sixth wicket, however, and they were only six runs short of 200 when Latif was ninth out, having beaten his previous best of 66 against England last year.

Debutant Tareq Aziz was the pick of the home attack, taking three for 19 in his 10 overs, and fellow teenager Mohammad Sharif ended the innings by having Shoaib Akhtar caught behind for three to finish with three for 40.

The home side needed a good start but Akhtar began the slide by bowling Mehrab Hossain for nought with his fifth delivery.

He then had Javed Omar caught for six and sent down eight overs in total for figures of two for nine - four of those coming in no balls and wides.

Bangladesh could ill afford two run outs which cost them the wickets of Al-Shariar and Khaled Mahmud and Tushar Imran was the only top six batsman to reach double figures.

He was eventually dismissed by spinner Saqlain Mushtaq in the 27th over but Mashud and Enamul Hoque put on 85 in 23 overs to ensure Bangladesh at least achieved respectability.

Their stand came to an end when Hoque was caught off Inzamam, only the latter's second victim in 251 one-day appearances.
