Sri Lanka produced a professional performance to win the first Test with almost two days to spare against India at Galle.
The hosts sealed a comprehensive 10 wicket victory when Sanath Jayasuriya scored a boundary after his side were left the small matter of six second innings runs to win the match.
The victory marks Sri Lanka's first win over India in 16 years and confirms what abysmal travellers the losers have become.
Despite beating world champions Australia earlier in the year, the Indian side really seem uncomfortable away from their own land, even when the journey is as short as this one.
The day had begun with India needing 45 runs to avoid an innings defeat after having been outplayed for the entire match.
Venkatesh Prasad and Rahul Dravid managed to keep the hosts at bay for some of the morning until Sri Lanka's star performer with the ball Muttiah Muralitharan struck.
He took his fifth wicket of the innings and eighth of the match to remove Prasad for 20 and with Javagal Srinath not batting, the Indian innings closed on 180.
Sri Lanka needed just two scoring strokes and eleven deliveries to confirm victory and now hold the upper hand in this three match series.
