James Toney stopped Hasim Rahman in the third round in a non-title heavyweight bout between former world champions.
Rahman was cut in a collision of heads, and ref Ray Corona ended the fight in Temecula, California, at his request.
"I'm not going to fight with one eye," said Rahman, who drew against Toney in their previous meeting in March 2006. "I couldn't see the punches."
Multi-weight world champion Toney, 39, claimed: "I made him quit. I'm the best heavyweight fighter in the world."
Toney won world titles at middleweight, super-middleweight and cruiserweight and also claimed the WBA heavyweight crown by beating John Ruiz in 2005.
However, he was stripped of the belt after testing positive for the anabolic steroid stanazol.
He subsequently failed another drugs test following a win over Danny Batchelder in May 2007, but a one-year ban was reduced to six months on appeal.
Rahman, 35, scored a famous knockout win over WBC and IBF heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis in 2001, but has struggled to hit those heights again. He lost the WBC title to Oleg Maskaev in August 2006.
