Jones outpoints Ajamu on comeback

Roy Jones and Prince Badi Ajamu Former light heavyweight champion Roy Jones Jr resurrected his fading career by outpointing Prince Badi Ajamu in his comeback fight in Boise, Idaho.

The 37-year-old American improved his record to 50-4 with three scores of 119-106 as he eased to a fine win.

The victory gave Jones, who claimed five world titles at four different weights, the fringe NABO title.

It also ended a run of three defeats since 2003 to Antonio Tarver (twice) and Jamaica's Glencoffe Johnson.

Jones, once the world's best pound-for-pound fighter, revealed he had been training for nine months to fight 34-year-old Ajamu, who is ranked number six by the WBC and is a cousin of the late Floyd Patterson.

And afterwards Jones said he is now eyeing a crack at Britain's IBF/WBO super middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe, or even former middleweight king Bernard Hopkins.

"The champ is back," Jones roared afterwards. "But I only give myself a 'C' for that performance."

On the undercard, former IBF light heavyweight champion William Guthrie stopped Luke Munsen to win the vacant IBF international cruiserweight belt.
