Sebrle to make return to Odyssey

Roman Sebrle Top decathlete Roman Sebrle will again take part in the Woodie's DIY Irish Indoor Athletics Championships at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast this weekend.

The 33-year-old Czech Republic athlete is the current world record holder over the 10 track and field events and competed in Belfast last year.

Sebrle is also the current Olympic, World and European champion.

The world number one will compete in the 60m hurdles, long jump and shot in Sunday's programme.

In the long jump event, his opposition will include Olympic silver medallist John Moffitt of the USA.

Other additions to the Odyssey entry include US sprinters Rae Edwards and Josh Norman.

Both Americans clocked 10.09 for 100m outdoors last season while Edwards was a member of the US team which won a relay bronze at the Pan American Games.

Norman was US Indoor 60m champion two years ago.

The action gets underway on Saturday at 1700 GMT and the opening evening highlights will include the men's 3000m final where local man Gareth Turnbull will be in action.

The race will be Turnbull's only outing of the indoor campaign as he intends to concentrate on building up towards an early start to his outdoor campaign in the US in the Spring.

James McIlroy is also scheduled to be in action in the 1500m heats where he should secure qualification for Sunday's final.

Talented young Irish long jumper Kelly Proper will also be in action in her specialist event on Saturday evening while Paul Brizzel will make his return to the track in the 200m after an illness-affected 2007.

Sunday's highlights will include the appearance of Swedish star Jenny Kallur in the 60m hurdles.

Derval O'Rourke's absence because of injury means that Britain's Sarah Claxton will be the Swede's main opposition.
