Brewer & Harris to make GB debuts

Amy Harris Long jumper Amy Harris and 800m runner James Brewer will make their senior Great Britain debuts at this week's European Indoor Championships.

They were among 21 athletes named as the squad was completed for the event which begins in Birmingham on Friday.

UK Athletics performance director Dave Collins aims to use the competition as stepping stone for the 2012 Olympics.

"This is an ideal opportunity for individuals to get themselves into the frame for the future," he said.

"The first wave was about many of those who the selectors felt could challenge for podium places.

"This wave is to see more individuals step up in their performances and ultimately it will lead to more."

The second draft of athletes also included selections for both men and women's 4x400m relay squads.

Rob Tobin and Emma Duck were also rewarded for strong performances over 400m this season with places in the individual events.

Harris and Brewer won their respective titles at the UK Indoor Championships with Harris landing 6.47m in the long jump - even better than her outdoor personal best.

Brewer took some impressive scalps as he took the 800m in one minute 49.03 seconds.
