Greg Rutherford won Britain's first European Championship medal in Gothenburg, claiming long jump silver with an impressive leap of 8.13 metres.
The 19-year-old from Milton Keynes struggled early on in the wind and rain before nailing his final jump to leapfrog from third to second place.
Italian Andrew Howe jumped 8.20m to win the title, while Ukrainian Oleksiy Lukashevych finished third with 8.12m.
British duo Chris Tomlinson and Nathan Morgan missed the final cut.
"That was absolutely amazing - going into last round, I was relaxed and I just went for it," said Rutherford, last year's European junior champion.
"I know I can jump 8.00m every day, and on my day 8.20m and 8.30m.
"I was worried that I wouldn't get going with the rain and the wind but then I got into it. It's a dream come true.
"Now I have to go on to the next level and keep medalling."
