Olympic champion Christian Olsson sent the Gothenburg crowd wild as he won triple jump gold at the European Championships on Saturday.
Olsson, born just up the road from the Ullevi Stadium, jumped 17.67 metres in the second round to take the title.
Pre-competition favourite Yelena Isinbayeva sealed pole vault gold when she cleared 4.70m in tough conditions.
Her training partner Monika Pyrek took silver on countback with 4.65m while Tatyana Polnova finished third.
Olsson, who becomes the third Swedish gold medallist at these championships after Carolina Kluft and Susanna Kallur, was a class above the rest of the triple jump field.
Britain's Nathan Douglas was 46cm back in silver with Romania's Marian Oprea in bronze.
Olsson said: "It's been a long road. It has been 21 months of up and down, but here I stand again as the number one."
Germany's Ulrike Maisch ran a personal best to take an unexpected marathon gold in wet conditions.
Serbia's Olivera Jevtic took silver, with long-time leader Irina Permitina hanging on for bronze after being overhauled just two miles from the end.
Belarussian Alesia Turava won the 3,000m steeplechase to match the gold her sister Ryta won in the 20km walk.
Turava accelerated away from the rest of the steeplechase field with 300 metres left to leave Russian Tatyana Petrova to settle for silver with Poland's world number one Wioletta Janowska taking bronze.
Her run makes her the inaugural European champion in the event.
Belarussian Natallia Khoroneko took shot put gold with her fourth-round throw of 19.43m.
Compatriot and world number one Nadzeya Ostapchuk took silver with a throw of 19.42m while German Petra Lammert, who led the early stages of the competition, hung on to bronze with 19.06m.
World champion Ivan Tikhon threw a season's best of 81.11m to win a surprise gold in the men's hammer.
Tikhon's hammer gold was in doubt until the final few moments of competition.
Finn Olli-Pekka Karjalainen took silver with 80.84m, although he landed a huge throw with his final effort that was only ruled out because his right foot brushed the edge of the circle.
Bulgaria's Vadim Devyatovski, ranked world number one, finished third in 80.76m.
Lithuania's double Olympic champion Virgilijus Alekna lived up to his favourite's tag in the discus, scooping the European title with his opening throw of 68.67m.
Estonia's Gerd Kantner carried his good form through from qualifying to take silver in 68.03m ahead of compatriot Aleksander Tammert, who landed 66.14m.
German veteran Lars Riedel, a five-time world champion, finished eighth.
