Bekele to join Edinburgh line-up
Bekele sets 10,000m world record
Ethiopia's Kenenisa Bekele has confirmed that he will compete in the Great Edinburgh International Cross Country on 14 January.
The 23-year-old Olympic 10,000m champion missed this year's race after the death of his fiancée Alem Techale.
Bekele will renew his rivalry with Eritrean Zersenay Tadesse who he beat the World Cross Country Championships.
"It has always been on the cards Bekele would accept the invitation," said race director Matthew Turnbull.
"Obviously after the circumstances of what happened before this year's meeting, it meant there was no way he would be in shape to compete in any race.
"But Kenenisa always said he would try to honour that commitment and there has been a long-standing offer on the table with him since then."
Techale died just two weeks before this year's race at Holyrood Park while on a training run.
