Mayock misses out
Britain's John Mayock failed in his bid to make the 5,000m qualifying time for the European Championships on Sunday at the Prefontaine Classic Grand Prix.
The meeting in Eugene, Oregon was an ideal opportunity for the Yorkshire man to make the Munich championship qualifying standard of 13 minutes 28 seconds.
But Mayock, whose summer plans are to compete over 1500m in the Commonwealth
Games, finished the race in eighth place in 13 minutes 39.49 seconds, well short of the target time.
Victory went to Kenya's Abraham Chebii who finished in 13:13.53, comfortably ahead of second-placed Frenchman Ismael Sghyr in 13:16.74.
Kenya's Albert Chepkuri was third with a time of 13:17.32.
