Bellamy off to Coventry

Welsh international Bellamy is off to the Premiership
Wales' international striker Craig Bellamy is on his way to Premiership side Coventry City, who are said to have agreed a 6.5m deal with Norwich City.

Bellamy is being lined up as a replacement for Robbie Keane who signed for Inter Milan for 13 million at the end of July.

Bellamy will have a medical and should sign at Highfield Road on Wednesday afternoon.

"We fully expect Craig to do as well as Robbie Keane, if not better," Coventry chairman Bryan Richardson.

"It is fantastic news for the club - especially considering the calibre of opposition we were up against," added Richardson, who said three Premiership clubs and one First Division outfit had also been after Bellamy's signature.

"Craig has realised Gordon Strachan is someone who will look after him as he did with Robbie Keane.

"We fully expect Craig to do as well as Robbie, if not better," Richardson continued.

Five-year deal

Bellamy is understood to have discussed the finer details of his five-year deal with representatives of the Premiership club last night.

And, with Peruvian international Ysrael Zuniga and John Aloisi doubtful for Saturday's Premier League opener at home to Middlesbrough, Bellamy is expected to go straight into the side alongside Belgian frontman Cedric Roussel.

Coventry boss Gordon Strachan has already spent 2.5m of Robbie Keane's huge transfer fee on Liverpool midfielder David Thompson.
