Bowring to make coaching comeback
Kevin Bowring, former Wales national coach
Kevin Bowring: glad to be involved with developing Welsh talent again
Former Wales national coach Kevin Bowring has returned to Welsh rugby, after taking over at second division Uwic.

Bowring, who resigned as Wales coach after the record 51-0 defeat against France at Wembley in 1998, had been offered coaching jobs at Caerphilly and a number of other clubs, but opted in the end for Uwic - where he has been lecturing and helping out with the team on a part-time basis.

Having been national coach, Bowring admits that his coaching ambitions now revolve solely around encouraging new Welsh talent, but he does believe that he can help Uwic win promotion to Division One.

"I'm not sure students could sustain the standards necessary for Premier rugby, but Division One would definitely be a good standard of rugby for young players," he said.

Bowring held Welsh rugby's top coaching job from 1995 to 1998, before being replaced by Graham Henry, and will be able to share this considerable experience with the young players in the Uwic squad.

"I spent some happy years as Welsh Under 21 coach - which was very much involved with the development of players - and certainly with the national team I was keen on giving young players the chance to develop," he said.

"I've always been interested in helping Wales develop players to their full potential and Uwic is certainly one of the greatest nurseries for Welsh international players."
