League of Wales fixtures announced
![]() Total Network Solutions celebrate with the League of Wales trophy at the end of last season
Total Network Solutions begin the defence of their League of Wales title with the most difficult of starts at Barry Town.
TNS' success prevented Barry from winning the championship for an unprecedented fifth time in a row. Barry beat TNS twice last season and the team from Llansantfraid lost three of their first four games, but bounced back in impressive style. They did not play on the last day of the season, but looked on in delight as Barry went down 2-0. Manager Dr. Andy Cale was in Israel with the England Under-16 squad and listened over a telephone to BBC Radio Wales commentary of the game. "Get one over on us" The mouth-watering prospect of present champions against former champions appealed to Cale and he relished being in the position Barry are used to occupying. "Now we are champions everyone will be looking to get one over on us," he said.
"Things are going well" Levadia Maardu of Estonia provide TNS' exotic opposition in the first leg of the qualifying round, in a game to be played at Wrexham's Racecourse Ground on 12th July. The manager said many of his players were currently working or were on holiday, but added, "things are going as well as they could be in training."
The League of Wales season kicks off on Friday 18th August when Flexys Cefn Druids host Rhyl, with all other opening games the following day. Playing Barry on a Saturday pleased Cale, who has trouble raising his part-time players for mid-week fixtures. In other fixtures, new boys Oswestry Town and Port Talbot Athletic are home to Llanelli, and away at Haverfordwest respectively. Opening fixtures in full Friday 18th August Flexys Cefn Druids v Rhyl Saturday 19th August Afan Lido v Carmarthen Town; Bangor City v Aberystwyth Town; Bary Town v Total Network Solutions; Caersws v Inter Cardiff; Cwmbran Town v Newtown; Haverfordwest County v Port Talbot Athletic; Oswestry Town v Llanelli; Rhyader Town v Connah's Quay Nomads. |
