Aber sign experienced midfielder
Stuart Slater
Slater's career has been disrupted by injury
League of Wales side Aberystwyth have signed former Celtic and West Ham winger Stuart Slater.

The 32-year-old follows new manager Frank Gregan from Forest Green Rovers to Aberystwyth after failing to a agree a new contract with the Nationwide Conference side.

Slater made 141 appearances for West Ham between 1986 and 1992 before moving to Celtic for 1.5m.

He joined Ipswich Town the following season for 750,000 and stayed at Portman Road for three seasons before being signed on a free transfer by Watford.

Injuries limited him to only 30 league appearances for the Hornets in almost three years at Vicarage Road and he eventually signed for Forest Green nine months ago.

Aberystwyth chairman Donald Kane also confirmed on Tuesday that the club's highly rated attacker Glyndwr Hughes has accepted a new contract.

Hughes, a Welsh semi-professional international, had been linked with a move to rivals Carmarthen Town.
