Niedzwiecki joins Arsenal
![]() Niedzwiecki (r): Celebrating after FA Cup victory
Former Wales keeper Eddie Niedzwiecki has been appointed reserve team coach at Arsenal - just days after leaving Chelsea.
He takes up the role previosuly held by Gunners legend George Armstrong, who died at the beginning of November. Niedzwiecki, who also works alongside manager Mark Hughes in the Wales national set-up, quit Stamford Bridge last week after new manager Claudio Ranieri brought in his own goalkeeping coach. He become the third member of the club's backroom staff to leave in a week after the departures of Graham Rix and Ray Wilkins. Ranieri had offered Niedzwiecki the option of taking on a redefined role at Stamford Bridge or leaving. Chelsea managing director Colin Hutchinson denied reports that Niedzwiecki and Pintus had been fired and then reinstated after a player's revolt led by Dennis Wise. "There is no truth in the rumour that there was a player revolt to have them reinstated," he said. "Claudio told Dennis what was happening and Dennis put up a strong case for the work that Eddie and Antonio had been doing. "Claudio said that was fine and that was why he had given them the option of staying on."
