Dorset-born Dan Hunter says playing professional volleyball in the Netherlands will aid his bid to make the Great Britain Olympic team in 2012.

The 20-year-old. who plays for Landstede Zwolle, is one of five Britons to join a Dutch side in preparation for the London Games.

Hunter told BBC Radio Solent: "It's done wonders for me and gives me the chance to compete at London 2012.

"It's also good for the sport if others are over here playing at a high level."

Hunter continued: "I've improved a lot over here and it's nice to see more players playing at a higher level in this sport."

Oliver Kimber, who plays for Langhenkel Volley Doetinchem, added: "We want to play the best in order to get up to the highest level.

"It's completely different to volleyball in the UK. It's a professional sport over here and they take it very seriously.

"The fans we get for home games over here are fantastic and it's a great arena to play the sport professionally."

In October, Britain's indoor volleyball teams were told that they can compete in the 2012 Games.

"There has never been a British indoor volleyball team at the Olympics so we're making history," added Kimber.

"But I've got to keep getting better and better because until the coach announces the squad your place isn't guaranteed.

"It just takes one injury or a new player to develop so we'll have to see what happens."
