Welcome to Ski Sunday
Ski Sunday will bring you all the exciting action
This season's Ski Sunday promises to be one of the best ever.
We have the Winter Olympics at Salt Lake City in February to look forward to, and the prospect of a genuine British medal chance with Alain Baxter, ranked 11th in the world in slalom. As well as following the World Cup downhill tour, we'll be featuring more 'nu-skool' skiing events. We will also be following Lesley McKenna throughout the season as she attempts to win an Olympic snowboard medal. McKenna is ranked third in the world in her discipline - the half-pipe. Maier comeback? Safety is always an issue in ski racing, and the current mood is not good. The recent death of France's world super-G champion Regine Cavagnoud in training has created a sombre atmosphere. However, there is encouraging news about Hermann Maier after nearly losing his leg in a motorbike accident two months ago. Maier has refused to rule out a comeback although his chances of making the Olympics are extremely slim. The new series kicked-off on 9 December. It will be shown every Sunday at 1630 GMT on BBC Two, except Val Gardena on 16 December, which will be at 1330 GMT.
