Freddie Flintoff: Ashes Warrior

Freddie Flintoff: Ashes Warrior
Monday 29 November - 2305 GMT (repeated Saturday, 4 December)

The BBC's Inside Sport cameras have followed Andrew 'Freddie' Flintoff over the past year as he has fought to save his career from injury and rebuild his life after cricket.

This documentary looks back at the England star's extraordinary deeds on and off the pitch.

Flintoff made his reputation in schoolboy cricket as a hard-hitting right-hander and right-arm fast bowler before signing for Lancashire.

Nicknamed 'Freddie' after cartoon character Fred Flintstone, he made his Test debut against South Africa in July 1998 at the age of 20.

And his career would blossom. Over the course of 79 Tests, the all-rounder scored 3,845 runs at an average of 31.77, with five centuries - capturing 226 wickets at 32.78.

Flintoff's finest hours came during England's Ashes successes of 2005 and 2009 where the talisman played a leading role for his country.

But ankle and knee problems dogged his career.

After initially retiring from Test cricket at the end of the 2009 Ashes series, Flintoff was finally forced to announce his retirement from all forms of cricket "with disappointment and sadness" in September 2010.

Contributions from Sir Ian Botham, Piers Morgan, Michael Vaughan, Shane Warne, Darren Gough and James Corden help to tell Freddie's tale - one of incredible highs and brutal lows - but, as ever, the boy from Preston retains a smile throughout.
