I could do it y'know
if they'd let me
escape from the oil and the grime
I shouldn't be stripping down engines
with this burgeoning talent of mine
I should be out there
fast-tracking at Imola
fearless whatever the weather
a lean, mean fighting machine
(and I don't look half bad in leather)

A few tweaks in my set-up
and I'd look great in the get-up
I'm like a coiled spring, raring to go
you see, with tension suspension
and water-cooled apprehension
with a ten lap start, well who knows.

To the final countdown
on this day of days
under the brolly dollies'
well-mascara'd gaze
awe-inspiring courage
no remorse
the immoveable object
and the irresistible force
lighting up the rear
carving up the breeze
muscular curves
on bended knees
astride a loaded
magazine
ready to rage
against the machine

And who says who wins
who knows what's what
when you throw superstock
into the melting pot
add a bit of backbone
a fistful of spice
bring to the boil
be focussed, precise
then serve it up hot
on a renegade platter
pump up the heart rate
stir the grey matter
in the shaking heads
as they hit the back straight
driven by a hunger
for the number one plate

So how do I admire thee?
let me count the ways
far beyond that chequered flag
at the end of the public's gaze
far too quick for the spotlight
on a Duke, a wing or a prayer
flying in the face of adversity
to where eagles wouldn't dare

So what fires the spark plugs that lie deep within
that all-consuming will to win
with life and death dangerously blurred
you give it hell for kevlar with courage to spare

Shoulder to shoulder
when two world's collide
all heads down
for a white knuckle ride
the Texan Tornado
the Wonder from Down Under
as no-one compares
let no man put asunder
crank it up, fire it up
harness the power
cometh the man
cometh the hour
