Garth Crooks
Former Tottenham forward Garth Crooks has become an integral part of the BBC's football unit.

He is a regular reporter for Match of the Day and Football Focus and has presented a variety of sports programmes for BBC TV and radio.

Born in Stoke-on-Trent, he began his playing career at the age of 19 with Stoke City, moving to Tottenham four years later where he formed a formidable strike force with Steve Archibald.

Garth scored over 200 league goals and was capped four times at England Under-21 level.

He won the FA Cup with Spurs in 1981 and 1982, and helped them lift the Uefa Cup in 1984.

The following season he joined Manchester United on loan, and then had a two-year spell at West Bromwich Albion.

PFA chairman

In 1987 Garth moved to Charlton Athletic, where he retired from playing in 1990.

He made several television appearances while he was still a player and was a match analyst for the BBC during the 1982 and 1990 World Cup finals.

He was Match of the Day's reporter with the England camp at Euro 2000 and Korea and Japan 2002.

Garth's other broadcast credits include presenting BBC Radio Five Live's Sporting Albums and the BBC TV series Match of their Day.

He has also hosted programmes for BBC local radio in London.

Garth was chairman of the Professional Footballers' Assocation from 1988-90 and received an OBE for services to football in 1999.
