Guppy love
Steve Guppy
Not content with beaming down onto the show last week, Steve Guppy wanted to come back. Your wish is our command, Steve. So what did you want to know about him?

  • Steve is 31 and was born in Winchester. He worked on building sites before making it in football.

  • He's a left-sided midfielder and can play either as a wing-back or an out-and-out winger.

  • Steve had trials with his boyhood team Southampton and turned out for their reserve a few times. But he was shattered when the Saints let him go, saying he wasn't good enough. Stints at Wycombe (where he played under Martin O'Neill), Newcastle and Port Vale followed before Steve teamed up with O'Neill again, signing for Leicester in 1997 for 850,000.

  • His early nickname was 'Nervous Nora' !

  • Steve became the second player to represent England at both semi-professional and full level when he was called up by Kevin Keegan to play in the in the friendly against Belgium in 1999 (the first was former Arsenal striker Alan Smith). It was Steve's first and so far only cap - much to the surprise of many, who feel he should have had more call-ups.

  • He's been called one of the best crossers of the ball in the Premiership and even compared to David Beckham in ability.

  • Like Beckham, Guppy spends a lot of time on the training ground perfecting his crosses - he says he gets stick from his team-mates for doing extra.
