Rusedski faces Andy Roddick in the battle of the big servers
|
Greg Rusedski will undergo a fierce test of his Wimbledon title credentials when he faces fifth seed Andy Roddick on Centre Court on Wednesday.
The Briton knows that if he can beat Roddick then the draw has opened up for him with the surprise defeat of top seed Lleyton Hewitt.
The only other seeds left in the top quarter are Tommy Robredo, who is far more at home on clay, and 12th seed Paradorn Srichaphan.
Roddick is many people's tip for the Wimbledon crown after his victory at Queen's, which included a win over Rusedski.
But the British number two insists he "learned a few things" from their recent encounter, which Roddick edged in three sets.
The home favourite will also take heart from the fact that he came closer than anyone to beating Roddick that week.
Rusedski also beat the American in straight sets at Wimbledon 12 months ago.
Also on Centre Court, Venus Williams gets another chance to show off her designer dress in a second-round match against Katarina Srebotnik.
Elsewhere, Lleyton Hewitt's conqueror Ivo Karlovic is back in action, this time out on Court 14.
He faces another Australian, but perhaps a less daunting one than his first-round opponent.
Paul Baccanello is a fellow qualifier and, like Karlovic, is making his Grand Slam debut.
