Started the year in the best possible way, winning India's Tata Open to put him among the front-runners in the Champions Race. He reached four finals in 2001, and won one, with the only thing missing a decent run in a Grand Slam. He did reach the fourth round here last year and comes into the tournament on the back of a last eight appearance at the French Open - his best in a Grand Slam event. But like most of his fellow South Americans, clay is his surface and grass is not. |
