Wimbledon goes interactive
How interactive TV looks with BBCi
BBCi viewers can watch Wimbledon like never before

This year, BBCi is aiming to serve up even more coverage from the show courts of SW19 by providing extra footage from the Wimbledon Championships across all digital platforms.

Whether you get your digital signal through digital cable, digital terrestrial or digital satellite, there's even more choice for the matches you watch.

For the first time ever, digital terrestrial (DTT) viewers and Kingston subscribers in Hull can choose the action they want to watch from a selection of BBC Sport feeds around Wimbledon.

The BBC is also hoping that digital cable viewers with Telewest can maximise their viewing by receiving footage from other Wimbledon show courts.

All it takes is a press of the red fasttext button on the handset, while watching coverage on digital BBC ONE or TWO.

In addition to the live match broadcast on the main channel, viewers have the following options, depending on which platform they subscribe to:

What's available

Digital Satellite (Sky)

German star Boris Becker has won Wimbledon three times

  • The chance to choose from a selection of up to five live matches

  • Live commentary accompanies each match, and each screen has its own dynamically updated scoreboard

  • Live scores from all of Wimbledon's show courts, and a full results service

  • The Multiscreen: a text service providing all the latest news from Wimbledon, including scores, news, reports, results, experts' view, draw and order of play

Digital Terrestrial

  • An opportunity to choose from up to two extra matches on top of BBC1 and BBC2 coverage

  • In addition to footage from other courts, viewers get a separate range of dynamically updating reports, statistics, features, comments and player profiles

Digital Cable

Telewest

BBCi is working with digital cable platform Telewest to try to develop a multistream service in time for Wimbledon 2002.

This would give Telewest viewers the chance to choose between the match being shown on digital BBC ONE and BBC TWO, as well as matches on up to four other show courts around SW19.

If the platform isn't able to support multistream video, BBCi has developed a comprehensive text-based service to make sure they don't miss out.

This features all the latest news from Wimbledon, including scores, news, reports, results, experts' view, draw and order of play.

Viewers also get access to the message boards, allowing them to exchange views and comments about the Championships with other e-mail users.

NTL

Can Henman make it this time around?

Ntl subscribers will have access to a specially created text service by pressing the red button on their handset.

This will provide viewers with scores, news, reports, results, experts' view, draw and order of play.

Viewers also get access to the message boards, allowing them to exchange views and comments about the Championships with other e-mail users.

Kingston Communications (Hull)
  • After the World Cup is over, digital viewers in Hull will be able to choose from a selection of up to five live matches

  • They will also have access to a range of dynamically updating reports, statistics, features, comments and player profiles, while still watching the live action unfold in quarter screen

  • Hull viewers will also be able to share their views on the Championships with other e-mail users through the message boards

Being at SW19 has never been easier. Thanks to BBCi, Wimbledon 2002 is only as far away as your remote control.
